VoTech Education Programs
General Information
CGMA will loan up to $1,500 to eligible individuals who are pursuing a Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Education approved vocational technical training program and who have a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Assistance under this program is intended to help pay the cost of non-college courses that provide the technical knowledge and skills needed for entry into a specific career field.
Eligibility Requirements
All CGMA clients, their spouse and their dependent children are eligible to participate in this Program.
Eligibility does not extend to CGMA clients who are currently delinquent in repaying any CGMA loan or who appear on the CGMA Restricted List.

Eligibility is based on the client and the student's status as of the first day of the course for which assistance is being provided. ![]()
The loan must normally be repaid prior to completing the course for which it was provided. A new VoTech Student Loan will not be provided until any previous such loan has been repaid. ![]()
Assistance may be provided for the cost of short-term, Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Education approved courses. The course must lead to bona fide employment opportunities. ![]()
The maximum amount of assistance may not exceed $1,500. ![]()
A financial need for assistance must be demonstrated. ![]()
Requests for assistance under this program must be submitted to your nearest CGMA Representative no later than 30 days after the course begins. ![]()
Individuals receiving assistance under this program may also be eligible for assistance under other CGMA Education Programs.
Application Procedures
step 1 Complete all sections of the CGMA Application for Assistance (CGMA Form 5)*

step 2 Attach the following documents:
Proof of the student’s enrollment, such as a certificate of enrollment with current courses listed or a letter from the Registrar’s Office, verifying the student’s name, the cost of the course, and that the course is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Education.
A clear copy of the front and back of the client’s valid Coast Guard ID card (both sides, clearly visible).
step 3 Make a photocopy for your records and forward the original application and supporting documentation to your nearest CGMA Representative
After ensuring the loan application and attachments are complete, the CGMA Representative will process the request and issue a check co-payable to the student and the school for the proper amount.
