Navigating CGMA - Disapproving Requests

What to do when you have to disapprove a request

Sometimes a request falls outside of CGMA policy. For example: a member requests a loan to pay back a family member for a personal loan, or needs money to retain a lawyer for a custody dispute.

CGMA Form 17

When a request must be disapproved, Representatives are expected to officially disapprove the request using the CGMA Form 17, citing the reason and/or provision from the CGMA Manual.

Once a CGMA Form 17 has been issued, a copy is to be sent to CGMA-HQ, for audit purposes.

In 2012, over 5,900 checks were issued by CGMA Representatives, with only three disapprovals forwarded to CGMA-HQ - making the local Representative disapproval rate less than one-tenth of one percent.

When you disapprove a request, don't forget to send in CGMA Form 17

Appeals

Appeals of these disapprovals and all requests for assistance that will bring an account balance over $3,000, orĀ  requests for a grant, must be forwarded to CGMA-HQ.

In 2012, CGMA-HQ received 199 such requests:

In 2012, the Board received six such requests. They approved 3 (50%) and disapproved 3 (50%).
