“CGMA means we love and care for each other as Family! ”

- ET1 Joseph Cardinale, USCG Ret

Every day the work of CGMA is made possible through dollars donated by those who appreciate the people and respect the mission of the United States Coast Guard. Whether standing watch at a station or underway on a cutter, Coast Guardsmen can rest assured that CGMA is ready to help. It is only through the Coast Guard community--through friends like you, that help is available to them.

95 years of service

On an average day, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance:

  • Provides $12,230 of financial assistance to 14 clients
  • Sends 2 “Welcome Baby” gifts to expecting Coast Guard families
  • Issues 5 zero-interest loans to help with emergencies
  • Equips at least one member with $2,600 of rental assistance
  • Pays caregivers for 4.5 hours of respite care for special needs families
  • Helps 36 students finish their homework through on-line tutoring sessions
  • Puts 46 books into the hands of college students
  • Funds $900 for emergency travel so members can be with their immediate family at crucial times

How We Help

Eligibility

Need Assistance?

Help from CGMA is within reach:
Your local Representative is the first person to contact if you need assistance
With few exceptions, everyone associated with the U.S. Coast Guard is eligible to request assistance on behalf of themselves or their immediate family members.

CGMA provides a variety of programs to provide financial assistance to our clients and their immediate family. While this list contains the most common needs facing our clients, it is not feasible to anticipate all possible situations that can occur and there will be times an exception to normal CGMA policy may be justified.

Any eligible person may request assistance from CGMA by contacting a CGMA Representative. Coast Guard service personnel may also contact one of the other Military Aid Societies or the American Red Cross for emergency assistance when they are unable to apply through CGMA.

An application for assistance must be completed for each request for assistance. In addition to the application form, in most cases a CGMA Budget Form must also be completed. Additional supporting documentation will normally be required when applying for assistance. Applicants are encouraged to review Applying for Assistance for addition information.
